Religious-Political Issues
Christian fundamentalists often vote against their best interests, especially in
national elections, and this was particularly evident in the 2004 election. If a candidate
takes a position against abortion, same-sex marriages, and gun control and in favor of the
death penalty, public prayers and display of the ten commandments, so-called "born-again"
Christians tend to vote for them, even though these same candidates may be opposed to
better health-care insurance, increasing the minimum wage, and controlling the deficit by
rolling back tax cuts to the wealthy. The articles in this section of TSR Online
will show that the Evangelical Christians who vote in this way are voting not only against
their best interests but against very basic Christian principles.

Jesus: A Notable Liberal of His Time - by Farrell Till

laws.) added 7/10/05
